TOUR FAQs
WHAT IS THE FORMAT OF GEN NEXT TOUR VISITS?
We aim to lead each visit with an education first model, meaning that we will try to add value to a school/college visit beyond only doing a mini-fair as much as we can. This could mean that we start a school visit with one of the following:
- Universities giving a brief overview of their institution (no PPT required)
- Leading a discussion with students on finding fit or their future
- Meeting with parents to talk about the application and enrollment process
- Doing an activity with students to get them thinking about career options
We will let universities know in advance what the session will look like so you are prepared. Keep in mind that no preparation is needed for any visit- you already know how to talk about your institution and your experiences.
Every visit will also include a mini-fair for students to interact individually with you at tables. We encourage you to display information about your institution and offer fliers/information for students to take away with them. Also, feel free to collect leads when you’re able to. We will also try to collect leads that will be shared after the tour with all tour members.
DO YOU COLLECT STUDENT DATA DURING THE TOUR?
Schools and students are becoming increasingly protective in sharing their personal information in light of data protection policies around the world. During each visit, we request the counseling and/or career services team at each institution to circulate a form within their student community and gather information from interested students. All this data will be put together and shared with all participants within two weeks after the tour. All data collection will be conducted following regional data policies and after securing permissions from the institutions we visit.
ARE ALL MEALS COVERED?
Group meals are covered during the tour. Breakfast is always included with the hotel reservations. We plan lunches and dinners depending on how the visits go and will remain flexible throughout the tour. We recommend having a good breakfast as lunches are sometimes delayed due to the nature of the visits. If on some days you prefer room service or private meals, you are free to do so but they will not be covered. Only group meals are covered.
DO I HAVE TO CARRY CASH WHILE TRAVELING?
It is always good to carry some cash if you prefer, but credit cards are widely accepted everywhere. You can also withdraw cash at ATMs at any time if needed.
WHAT CLOTHING DO I NEED TO PACK FOR THE TOUR?
Feel free to pack clothes that you will be comfortable in. We recommend business casual/polos/university logo wear etc for the school visits, but you can also carry formal wear if that is your preference. We also recommend wearing comfortable shoes since there could be a lot of walking including up/down stairways. It is good to be aware of the local weather and cultural customs so you can pack appropriate clothing.
HOW MUCH LUGGAGE CAN I CARRY ON DOMESTIC FLIGHTS IN INDIA?
The baggage allowance for domestic flights that we arrange in India is 20 kgs (44 lbs) for check-in baggage, and 7 kgs (15 lbs) for cabin/carry-on baggage. If you have excess baggage, be prepared to cover the additional costs which could vary with different airlines.
WHAT MATERIAL SHOULD I CARRY FOR THE TOUR VISITS?
- University Brochures: 200 per city is recommended
- Table cloth, table top banner
- Laptop/notepad to collect student data at your table
- Counselor packets (for high school visits) – Each packet can include a brochure and some swag
You’re welcome to have any brochures, fliers, pamphlets on your table with items such as pens. However, any additional swag items will be limited to what you’d like to leave in the counselor gift bag.
